takara limuna

Milangkani Projects & Clarence City Council

The story of Takara limuna is an interpretation incorporated into the Bedlam Walls Reserve, to promote the area’s rich Aboriginal Cultural Heritage. The story is told in multiple formats including recordings of the oral history of the Mumirimina people in palawa kani available through QR codes; the commissioning of five installations each of which reflect elements of country and culture, with artwork commissioned from Aboriginal artists; and consultation with aboriginal cultural advisers in the design and construction of tracks to maximise the impact of individual interpretation sites. The result is a very high quality recreational area which helps educate the general public about Aboriginal culture and history, assists the reconciliation process through truth-telling, improves the amenity of the reserve for all users through excellence in track design and creation, installation of viewing platforms and gathering space, and provides/enhances a space for Aboriginal people to transmit culture through generations. The methods of collaboration, integration and consultation, together with the formats of presentation are adaptable and transferable to many different organizations and areas. The judges were unanimously impressed by the quality and consideration which was demonstrated by this project.
