Moreton Bay Place Identity Foundational Directions
City of Moreton Bay, Patch Creative and Creative Arts Alliance

The Moreton Bay Place Identity Foundational Directions study prioritised meaningful engagement with community stakeholders to establish a foundation for understanding the unique characteristics, traditions, and values of each of the region's Place Localities. As the Moreton Bay region experiences significant growth, the City of Moreton Bay recognised the importance of place identity in planning for a culturally inclusive and socially sustainable future. This commitment to stakeholder engagement, especially with Traditional Owners, Custodians, and local creatives, ensured that the authentic identities of valued places were captured, informing the outcomes of the Foundational Directions Report.

The collaboration with Traditional Owners and Custodians, local creatives, and community members identified core pillars of place identity, including landform, climate, environment, and lifestyle. Interactive workshops allowed participants to creatively express the elements they cherished most about their communities. In addition to the workshop outcomes, the City received 3,200 responses to an online survey that further explored community values regarding their local identities, enhancing the study’s findings. The outcomes of this study will guide future development in a manner that honours the city’s origins while accommodating growth.

Congratulations to the City of Moreton Bay, Patch Creative, and Creative Arts Alliance for their outstanding work in this important initiative!
