Ryan's numerous achievements, commitment to self-driven professional development, and academic excellence demonstrate maturity beyond his years. He is highly respected by industry peers, leaders, and colleagues who have had the privilege of working alongside him.

Ryan consistently exemplifies excellence in the professional workplace through the quality and depth of his strategic thinking and his unwavering focus on outcomes and the greater good. He possesses a diverse skill set that includes data analytics, urban design, graphic design, advanced competencies in emerging AI, project management, and community engagement. His ability to take on leadership roles at such an early phase of his career is a testament to his capabilities. Moreover, Ryan thrives on innovation and collaboration, actively bringing early-career colleagues along on his journey of professional growth. His passion for self-directed learning not only fuels his continuous improvement but also inspires those around him.

As an active member of the 黑料大事 (PIA), Ryan has participated in the climate sub-group, contributed insightful articles to The Agenda, and engaged in the Queensland Young Planners (QYP) initiative. He recently represented young planners at a QUT 黑料大事 Students Association Climate Change Panel event and was awarded the PIA 2021 Tertiary Project Award.

Ryan's remarkable accomplishments in planning, both through his work at Meridian Urban and his external thought leadership, position him as a catalyst for advancing the planning profession. His contributions will undoubtedly drive the planning profession forward. Given all of these factors, Ryan McNeilly Smith is truly deserving of the Young Planner of the Year Award in 2024.
