This 4-part online course is designed for emerging planners who are seeking to gain skills in planning practice in Queensland. Each session will unpack the Queensland planning system and explore the fundamentals to become a successful practicing planner.
Starting a planning career is a thrilling but also transformative experience. Students entering the professional planning world might find themselves overwhelmed and not certain about the expectations and what they need to know in order to have a successful career.
This course is designed to further support planning students to transition from universities to work, supporting them with the essential practical knowledge, as well as the key attributes, to start their professional planning career.
This online course aims to provide graduates and soon to be graduates the essential knowledge and tools for them to operate in the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ Industry.
The course will be delivered over four (4) sessions, each session running from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, held on 4 separate days.
What will the event focus on?
It is proposed that the online course would be a one-stop shop induction type series for fresh graduates or soon to be graduates.
It will focus on the following:
Topic: Oveview of the Queensland ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ System and how does the Queensland ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ System operate?

At the end of this 4-part online course, attendees will be able to:

Main Course Chairperson/Facilitator:
Jennifer Roughan MPIA (LIfe Fellow)
Jenny Roughan is the principal of her own practice, Rough Plan, and has over 35 years of experience practising as a planner. She has managed a range of planning and development projects for clients in both the private and public sectors. She has extensive experience in development assessment and as an expert witness in ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ and Environment Court appeals, as well as in strategic planning, policy development and planning scheme drafting.
Jenny was appointed a Life Fellow of the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ in 2021 in recognition of her extensive and varied contribution to the planning profession.
