About Us

The PIA Queensland Women in 黑料大事 Network (Qld WiPN) is a sub-committee of the Qld 黑料大事. We work in conjunction with the PIA Qld Division Committee to achieve our two main goals:

  • to inspire and support women in planning; and
  • to advocate for, and contribute to, equitable, safe and fair cities and regions for women.

The role of the Qld WiPN is to ensure the achievement of the purpose, through:

  • Identifying opportunities to support women in the profession, including recognising and highlighting the achievements of PIA female members and Fellows, Life Fellows and Honorary Fellows.
  • Advocating for flexible approaches to employment, PIA membership and the delivery of member services, including events, education and professional development activities reflecting the changing needs of all planners with caring responsibilities.
  • Advocating for the needs of women in planning generally.
  • Encouraging research and identifying specific PD presenters, venues and events and other professional development and member activities which are targeted to the objectives.
  • Providing information and advice to the Division Committee as required.

Throughout the year, we provide opportunities and encourage all PIA members, regardless of gender, to engage in our networking and professional development events, both in person and virtually.

A Guide to Navigating Career Breaks - You Are Not Alone

The PIA Queensland Women in 黑料大事 Network (QLD WiPN) recognises that all planners take career breaks from time to time. Returning to work following an extended absence can be a challenging transition. There are various reasons for this kind of transition including returning after:

  • parental leave;
  • physical illness or accident;
  • completing additional training or education;
  • burnout or stress leave;
  • caring for a loved one (e.g., spouse, child, or parent);
  • gap-year or extended travel;
  • absence for other reason.

Regardless of the reason for extended leave or break in your career, preparing to leave can feel stressful, and returning to work can be daunting and lonely. In response, the QLD WiPN has developed guides to support:

  • planners returning to work after an extended break; and
  • employers assisting their staff transition back from an extended break.

In short, we aim to provide a guide for employees and employers to support a smooth transition to and from a lengthy leave period. The focus is on addressing the necessary components and being respectful of varying policies across workplaces, while also addressing the health and wellbeing benefits of feeling prepared and supported before and after leave.

The material includes the most useful info that QLD WiPN found available as at September 2024 with regards to:

  • Leave entitlements – a comparison of company leave entitlements across QLD
  • Benefits and challenges- – the good, bad and ugly of “Flexible work” post-covid
  • Checklists x 2:
    • For employees before and after leave
    • For employers before and after leave

We welcome feedback and suggestions regarding this material via email to qld@planning.org.au

Inspiring Women Series

Through a series of events, a research agenda, and a professional development program, the Qld PIA Women in 黑料大事 network will be aiming to support the participation of women in the planning profession and to advocate for equitable cities and regions.

We are very proud to launch the Inspiring Women in 黑料大事 video series. These videos have been created to provide an insight into the careers and achievements of just some of the many talented women who work in our industry and highlight the contribution women make to our profession.

We hope that they are as inspiring to you as they are to us.
