Who are Emerging Planners?
Emerging Planners are students or graduates of a planning or planning related degree with up to 5 years post-graduate experience. We are the future of the profession and bring a new eye to urban and regional planning in all its forms.
What is the Committee?
The SAEP Committee is the young planner section of PIA SA. We aim at amplifying the voice of young planners, give them opportunities to learn from their peers and take part in social and professional events to better network and integrate into the local planning community.
The SAEP group works in conjunction with PIA SA Division and the National Emerging Planners Group to deliver Professional Development Seminars, regular networking functions, the Mentoring Program.
What do we do?
Professional development: Attend forums/seminars on critical planning issues or topical planning projects;
Representation: Contribute to policy submissions;
Networking: Attend networking events to develop new contacts within the profession;
Mentoring: Receive guidance and support from senior members of the planning profession;
Socialisation: Meet your peers in more relaxed social events and find your community.
What is PIA?
PIA is the leading organisation on urban and regional planning in Australia. The Institute oversees the accreditation of planning degrees, organises various types of events to enhance education, communication and professional development of urban planners nationwide.
2024 Events
SAEP events bring together young planners from across metropolitan Adelaide as well as rural and regional young planners. We are always looking for new ideas to get everyone out and about and help young planners develop their professional skills.
What you can expect from us this year:
- Emerging Planner Forum: a half day conference designed for young planners by young planners with an incredible panel of speakers;
- Build Your Career: an evening chat with a panel of experts of the built environment about career choices and professional development;
- Quiz Night: a night when planners can test their knowledge and compete for wonderful prizes in a relax and fun environment. Proceedings go to a charity each year;
- Planners at the Pub: your social catch up with friends of the planning industry. This is a great opportunity to meet new people that share your interest and catch up with uni friends you might not get to see often anymore.
- More sporadic events as we go through the year.
To stay up to date or if you want to reach out to put an event together, please send us an email and follow us on social media ().
Sponsors
Nothing we do would be possible without the support of our sponsors. We would like to thanks MasterPlan for taking an interest into the future of the discipline by being a continuous sponsor of our Mentoring Program. As well as URPS for often getting on board with our events and making them a reality.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for SAEP, either for an individual event or a series of them, please contact PIA SA's office at .
Meet the Committee
The Committee members are fellow young planners elected for a one year term who invest their time based on their availability. We are structured into several subcommittees and share roles and responsibilities.
