PIA representatives give a planner’s perspective to the Falinski Inquiry into housing affordability
Further to PIA’s detailed submission to the Inquiry of the Standing Committee on Tax and Revenue into housing affordability and supply, PIA President Darren Crombie, PIA CEO David Williams and National Policy Director John Brockhoff gave evidence to the hearings of the Inquiry earlier this month.
PIA took the opportunity to highlight the importance of a strong residential construction sector, while also dispelling some myths about the state of Australia’s housing supply.
PIA President Darren Crombie also highlighted to the Federal Parliamentary Inquiry the critical role of planning in ensuring housing diversity, creating resilient suburbs and matching new development with supporting infrastructure.
Committee members took a particular interest in PIA’s call for a National Settlement Strategy and National Housing Data Commission.
PIA representatives made clear that this national policy framework would provide all parties in the planning system with a clearer picture of the housing supply and construction pipeline and understand the population growth Australia must accommodate.
The NSW Government also supported PIA’s call for a National Settlement Strategy as a key recommendation of their submission, which can be accessed .
