Digital Ready Precincts: A Playbook

Thursday 11.15am-12.15pm

Adam Beck

PlanTech is a transformational agenda that delivers better planning outcomes. It refers to the integration of technology and data enablers to enhance various planning processes. But a common question is – “how does PlanTech relate to the broader movement of investing in technology and data enablers for enhanced urban outcomes?”

To help compliment the internally focussed ‘PlanTech’ agenda, ‘UrbanTech’ was created to support the dialogue and delivery of smarter technologies into our cities, communities, and public realm.

This workshop session offers a playbook-style overview of the emerging UrbanTech trends facing planners, and how to deliver community benefit from these ‘digital uplift’ investments. From 5G digital connectivity and digital twins to digital trust and public area mobility robots.

This workshop is structured around 10 leading strategies that are emerging as the critical UrbanTech issues for the coming years, including:

  • Digital connectivity – the fundamentals of powering our digital lifestyles, in a mobile-ready world
  • Next Mobility – planning and designing for a shared, electric and autonomous mobility future
  • Digital Trust – the protocols for data gathering in the public realm
  • PMR’s – building readiness for when public area mobility robots are pitched in your city
  • Digital Twins – the five key Digital Twin capabilities that allow you to do new things with data
  • Shared infrastructure – rarely planned for, this emerging model of infrastructure delivery stacks up in different ways.

At the heart of this workshop is a new set of practical prompts in a playbook format that boost a Planner’s ‘readiness’ to future-proofing our precincts – a readiness to question, to challenge, to test and to engage.
